Windows Updates

It is critical on a weekly basis to run Windows updates. These are the small patches that Microsoft distributes to fix the vulnerabilities in their operating system. If you do not keep them up to date then you are asking for major trouble with your computer at work or home. AT Cushing we attempt to push these updates to the users on the network but you should get in the habit of checking them anyway.

To run Windows Updates.

  1. Open Internet Explorer.

  2. Select Windows Update from the Tools Menu. Install all "Critical updates" which are posted for your machine.

The web site will search to see which updates your computer needs.

Continue to run the updates until the window looks like this, with "0" critical updates. You may have to install and restart a couple of times to complete this process. Keep going back to the Windows Updates site until done.

Windows XP or 2000 will allow for Automatic Updates to be downloaded and installed if you select this option you will not have to worry about these updates so much.
